Here is a copy of the letter I sent to KIX 104!
Jake,
My name is Vicki Smith and I live in Elkins with my family. I have thought about
starting this e-mail to you for about six months or more , but when I did I
would just cry and I could not finish it.
I truly feel that my Step-Son Shawn Smith deserves to be your next Kix Kid of
the Week. When Shawn was two years old- his real Mother died in a car wreck. It
has been a very rough feeling for him to have never known his own Mother.
However, He is a GREAT kid and has a lot of great qualities. Shawn is much more
than just a Step-Son to me. He is my SON, my friend, and my life.
Shawn is fourteen years old and is in the eighth grade.
He is an excellent student that makes straight A's in Elkins Middle School. All
of his teachers, including his Principal Mr. Denzer have nothing but excellent
remarks about his conduct and effort. He is always willing to help out and
strives to always do his best. Just recently because of a very high test score,
he got to have a "FREE" day from school. Instead of just hanging out like most
fourteen year old kids would, Shawn helped his Dad cut and split wood all day.
At home he has two ornery little sisters. McKensi is five and Ally is two. There
has never been another brother that is more loving and responsible than Shawn.
He plays outside with them, teaches them many things, reads to them, and even
changes a diaper here and there.
As far as helping around the house--- You name it!! He can do it! He takes out
trash, makes beds, vacuums, mows, loads the dishwasher. I keep telling him that
he can be a kid sometimes too, but over Christmas Break he wanted to learned how
to run the washer and dryer! He is the best help anyone could ever ask for.
He loves to visit with people, swim, play baseball, read, listen to music, and
play video games.
Someday, Shawn wants to be a veternarian. I believe that is an obtainable goal
for him. He is very compassionate, loving, kind, and an extremely hard worker.
Every week- Shawn is the Kid of the Week to me and I hope you feel the same way.
Thanks,
Vicki Smith
